Saturday 6th October 2007 - Stockport County Girls Under 16's 9-1 Poynton FC Girls Under 16's - South Manchester Girls League Cup Poynton were only able to field a team
of 9, but what a team. Everyone gave 110% and then some more. Amy Fairweather
and Natalie Johns were solid in defence despite finding themselves outnumbered
on several occasions.
Saturday 13th October 2007 - Poynton FC Girls Under 16's 6-6 Chaddy End Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls League Cup A fast paced but evenly balanced game. Chaddy End took an early lead put Poynton struck back immediately through Carly Bishop. Less than two minutes later Ella Donogue put Poynton in front with a well struck goal. 8 minutes into the game Chaddy End drew level. There followed a spell of end to end football before Laura Strafford broke through to make it 3 - 2 to Poynton. The second half started at a fast pace, pressure at both ends but it was Lucy Joyce who scored twice in two minutes to take Poynton into a 5 - 2 lead. Chaddy End fought back instantly and began to claw back the lead their extra player beginning to tell, bringing them level at 5 - 5. With 10 minutes to go Carly Bishop headed in Natalie Johns corner to make it 6 - 5. At the end of 80 minutes that was still the score but two minutes into injury time Chaddy End broke away and overpowered Poyntons stretched defence to equalise. Poynton almost snatched the lead again when Carly Bishop turned and twisted her way through the Chaddy End penalty box only to see her shot rebound off the post. Another brilliant team performance from Poynton, great football and teamwork all over the pitch. Natalie Johns dominated midfield and did an excellent job in encouraging and supporting the rest of the team and thoroughly deserved to be Player of the Match.
Saturday 13th October 2007 - Chaddy End Girls U16s 5-1 Poynton FC Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls League Cup After the last match against Chaddy End,Poynton were hoping for a good result today. Poynton's last game was four weeks ago and their game suffered as a consequence. Chaddy put Poynton under a lot of pressure in the first half and despite the great efforts of Libby, Amy, Natalie, Sarah and Misha in goal, scored twice. As the half drew to a close, the tables began to turn and it was Poynton who finished the half pressuring the Chaddy goal. Second half got off to a bad start with Chaddy scoring almost from the kick off. Poynton's goal came two minutes later when Carly's shot was turned in by a Chaddy defender. This raised Poynton's game and they kept Chaddy under pressure for most of the half culminating in some great shots by Carly and Lucy and some equally great saves by the Chaddy keeper to deny Poynton any more goals. Despite the Poynton pressure they were caught on the break and Chaddy scored twice more. Libby Scarlett had a quality game showing great strength, determination and composure and was named 'Player Of The Match' by both Chaddy End and the Poynton supporters.
Saturday 17th November 2007 - Stockport County Ladies U16s 10-2 Poynton FC Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls League Cup With Hollie Harper going 1 on 1 with their keeper within the first minute Poynton got off to a great start. This was an end to end game but it was the speed of County that caught Poynton out of position a couple of times enabling them to go 2 up after 11 mins. It wasn't all County though, Poynton made several runs on goal and it was Ella Donoghue who after 25 mins scored a superb goal from the edge of the penalty box. Poynton were playing good football but County were able to deal with it and caught Poynton on the break a couple of times to finish the half at 4 - 1. Second half got off to a poor start and County scored 4 times in the first 7 minutes. After that Poynton rallied and got their game going again. Poynton had several runs on the County goal, Carly Bishop was denied a headed goal by being deemed to be offside. County scored again and a deflection gave them an own goal. Still Poynton kept going forward and rained shots on the County goal but it was a superb solo effort from Carly that gave Poynton the final goal of the game.10 - 2 but Poynton were so close to scoring more. Well done to everyone a great team performance. County nominated Natalie Johns as Player of the Match. Team players trophy went Amy Fairweather.
Saturday 24th November 2007 - Poynton FC Girls U16s 0-5 Westhoughton Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls Friendly Cup Westhoughton are one of the strongest teams in the league and with only 7 players to field against their 11 we were expecting to be well and truly beaten. How wrong we were. It was Poynton who were first to attack and it was Poynton who for the most part played the better football with great determination and spirit. Everyone was surprised when the first half finished 0 - 3 to Westhoughton. Despite being 4 players down Poynton were matching Westhoughton in the number of attacks on goal but it was the superiors numbers of Westhoughton enabled to both defend the Poynton attacks and overwhelm the Poynton defence. Every Poynton player gave 100% and more, superb performances by everyone. Misha was nominated Player of the Match by Westhoughton, Libby got the referees vote. The Poynton Parents Trophy was awarded to Misha who gave another outstanding performance in goal making some incredible saves in the process. A game the team should be proud of. Well done girls.
Saturday 24th November 2007 - St John's Girls U15s 1-4 Poynton FC Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls Friendly Cup Another outstanding performance by the girls picking up their first win of the season this time and with only 9 players. The game started fairly evenly both teams attacking the other goal and both keepers making some really good saves. St Johns were quick in attack but with Amy in the centre of defence and Libby and Hollie at left and right back, not many attacks got through. Midfield was well controlled by Nat, Lucy and Laura who kept feeding the ball through to Carly and Ella who pressured the St John defence constantly. It was the left back Libby who had moved up in support who picked up the ball on the wing and from well outside the box sent over the keeper and into the back of the net. Half time and Poynton were 1 - 0 up. Poynton have often been caught napping after the kickoff but a minute into the second half Libby picked up the ball on the edge of the her penalty box and beating several players carried the ball into St Johns penalty box and shot through the keepers legs into the back of the net. Brilliant. Poynton continued to pressure and half way through the second half Ella received the ball, battled through the defence and placed a superb shot over the keeper and into the net. 2 minutes later and Natalie who had tried several times finally got one of her long range shots into the back of the net. A quick break by St Johns 5 minutes later was just a little too quick for the tiring legs of Poynton and St Johns scored making the final score 1 - 4 to Poynton. Player of the Match was awarded to Laura Strafford. Poynton Parents Trophy was awarded to Libby Scarlett. Goals. Libby Scarlett 2, Ella Donoghue 1, Natalie Johns 1.
Saturday 15th December 2007 - Stalybridge Celtic Girls U15s 4-2 Poynton FC Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls Friendly Cup Poynton were looking forward to this game
and the possibility of another win, however, with only 7 players available
on the that seemed a tall order. As this was a friendly competition Stalybridge
loaned Poynton one of their subs to help even the teams.
Saturday 12th January 2008 - Altrincham Girls U15s 3-2 Poynton FC Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls Friendly Cup First game since before Christmas and it was Altrincham who started the stronger and more threatening but some great goalkeeping by Misha stopped them taking an early lead. A break by Poynton led to Carly Bishop scoring the first goal on 14 mins. 0 - 1 to Poynton. The lead only lasted a couple of minutes when a hopeful shot from outside the box found its way into the Poynton goal. 1 - 1. Poynton went straight onto the attack and two mins later Carly scored hers and Poyntons second following Laura Strafford run down the wing and cross straight to Carly's feet. Carly did well to shield the ball, turn and shoot whilst under pressure. 1- 2. Poynton stated the second half in front but during a slump in Poyntons play Altricham scored twice in two minutes. One of these was quite clearly scored by an offside player! Poynton woke up and the game continued with both teams evenly matched, both creating chances but being denied by good defensive play. Final score 3 - 2. Poynton Player of the Match, Natalie Johns. Poyntons 'Parent Trophy' winner Carly Bishop.
Saturday 23rd February 2008 - Poynton FC Girls U16s 1-2 Westhoughton Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls League (Division One) After last weeks 5-1 win over Westhoughton the girls were looking forward to this game, we even had a substitute!. Unfortunately Westhoughton were back to full strength also. This was a much more evenly matched game both teams pressuring the others goal, Poynton were not quite as sharp as last week and found themselves being closed down and were a little hasty with some of their passing. It was Westhoughton who scored first on 20 mins but that was cancelled 2 minutes later by a lovely strike from Lucy Joyce. Westhoughton retook the lead just a few minutes later through an offside player. In the second half, Poynton were playing down hill with the wind in their favour and whilst the teams were evenly matched initially it was Poynton who piled on more and more pressure as the second half progressed. A number of chances came Poynton's way, Lucy was closest, she beat the keeper only to see the ball bounce back off the bar. Claire, Natalie, Carly, Libby, Sarah, Laura all had attempts on goal both on target and some just missing the mark. On the whole a good performance from Poynton who were in the end, unlucky not to win. Player of the Match, keeper Misha Hirskyj, Poynton Parents Player of the Match, Laura Strafford.
Saturday 1st March 2008 - Chaddy End Girls U16s 5-5 Poynton FC Girls U16s - South Manchester Girls League (Division One) Another great result for the girls. Played
most of the game with 9 players having started with 7. Fairly evenly balanced
game to begin with on a very wet and windy pitch. Throughout the game
Poynton played the better and more skilful football but it was the extra
players that Chaddy had that enabled them to break quickly and overwhelm
the Poynton defence and take the lead after 10 mins. Poynton felt unfairly
done by and before they could regroup Chaddy scored their second. It was
new signing Paige that scored Poynton's first, a pin-point cross from
Natalie found Paige who took the ball well and fired into the net. 2 -
1. Poynton kept going forward Carly working hard up front, Paige, Natalie
and Laura all working hard in midfield and breaking forward to attack.
Chaddy broke and scored, 3 -1 but then along came Natalie with a superb
goal from distance that floated over the keeper and dropped just under
the bar. 3 - 2. Ponyton were buzzing but it was Chaddy who scored to make
it 4 - 2. Just before half time Carly's hard work paid off and she found
the back of the net from a Poynton corner. 4 -3 Half time. The second
half was a repeat of last week with Poynton dominating the game, 12 mins
after the restart Libby picked up a loose ball from a corner and fired
it into the back of the net. 4 -4. Chance after chance came Poynton's
way but again Chaddy broke quickly and scored again. 5 - 4 It was in the
final minute that Natalie and Libby worked the ball up the left before
Natalie blasted the ball into the back of the net. 5 - 5. Final score.
A great team performance on a difficult pitch and outnumbered, Poynton
finished the game feeling that with the chances they had, and with just
a little luck, could have won this one. Excellent effort by everyone,
good football and great teamwork.
Saturday 5th April 2008 - Poynton FC Girls U16s 4-2 Chaddy End Girls U16's - South Manchester Girls League (Division One) After last weeks poor friendly against Lisbon this was a much better performance from Poynton. Poynton got off to a flying start with Paige putting Poynton 1 - 0 up 3 minutes into the game. Chaddy applied plenty of pressure but keeper Misha and the back 4 of Libby, Claire, Amy and Sarah soaked it up and kept feeding the ball forward. Poynton created plenty of break and it was Paige on 31minutes who scdored heres and Poyntont's rsecond. The second half started with Poynton 2 - 0 up but it was Chaddy who made a stronger start and got there first after 2 minutes. 2-1. Chaddy's joy was short lived when just a few minutes later Paige struck again for her hatrick and Poyntons third. 3-1. Chaddy applied plenty of pressure coming close to scoring a couple of times, denied by some great goal keeping, defending and the cross bar! Poynton attacked, Carly was working hard and Paige was looking to add to her tally but it was Chaddy who got the break and scored. 3-2. Both teams were tiring but still creating chances. With five minutes to go, Carly finally got a goal (4-2) a deserved reward for all her hard work.Final score Poynton 4 Chaddy 2. Player of the Match: Misha Hirsky. Poynton Parents Player of the Match: Paige Clarke. |
