Saturday 8th September 2007 - Spurley Hey Under 11's 2-2 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) PJFC travelled to Spurley for the first game of the season. This was also the first game that Poynton have played at 11 a-side so this was a great indicator of how the team blends together. From the kick-off Poynton took the play to Spurley and in many areas found their feet very quickly. The performance was hugely encouraging that lead to Josh Noel (c) putting Poynton 1 up. At the start of the second half Connor Thompson followed with another. Poynton had every opportunity to kill the game off with chance after chance. But a lack of concentration aloud Spurley back in with a goal and just before the final whistle Spurley drew level. Points to note from Poynton's perspective - The defensive performance was fantastic resulting in Mat Southern being awarded MOTM including Sam Bentley (keeper) a close second. Danny Booth, Josh Noel, George Prescott and Dan Partington held together a formidable mid field. A positive start with bags of potential to come.
Tuesday 11th September 2007 - Stockport Vikings Under 11's 2-6 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton travelled to Stockport Vikings for this mid week fixture. At first the teams looked very even and the game ran from end to end with good entertaining football played by both teams. Poynton took the initiative by putting away a cracking goal from George Broddle followed soon by a Stockport own goal due to pressure applied by Poynton's attacking play. Stockport Managed a goal before half time but Poynton pushed the game away in the second half by pressing forward, sometimes leaving it a bit exposed at the back. Goals soon followed from Josh Noel x2, Connor Thompson and Ben Hopwood. Points to note from Poynton's perspective - George Broddle and Danny Booth sent in some great forward balls. Rory Tremayne and George Hurst played a supper first league game. Will Bedigan committed himself to every single ball holding good strength in defence and the MOTM was awarded to Connor Thompson.
Saturday 15th September 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 6-2 Woodley Albion Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton welcomed Woodley this weekend for the first home game of the season at Deva. From the kick-off Poynton played some good football almost entirely in Woodley's half. Poynton put 4 goals passed their keeper in the first half but collected 1 goal through not clearing from the area and 1 penalty. In the second half Poynton but the game to bed with another 2 goals after playing better football. Goals came from Connor Thompson 2, Josh Noel 2 (1 pen), George Broddle 1 and a forced own goal from Danny Booth's corner. Points to note - Mat Southern and Will Bedigan had big strong games, Adam Kay came on and looked after the right defence with clinical clearances, Will Trollope played his game of the season thus far and Sam Bentley played another cracking game in goal, remaining sharp and focused at all times. MOTM was awarded to George Prescott (left wing). To summarise - Poynton played well but you just get the feeling that there's much more to come from this well balanced team.
Tuesday 18th September 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-5 Hyde United Juniors Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton welcomed Hyde United this Tuesday evening. From
the start Poynton played some very good football and took the game to
Hyde with confidence and determination. Through this came results by
putting 2 goals passed Hyde from Connor Thompson in the first half and
when in 2-1 up. In the second half Poynton lost some shape and didn't
capitalise on the available space on the pitch resulting in 4 goals
scored by Hyde.
Saturday 22nd September 2007 - Cheadle & Gatley Under 11's C 1-7 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton travelled to Cheadle & Gatley on Saturday. Poynton played some very good positive football and took the game to Cheadle playing with confidence and dominated the first half, going in 5-0 up. During the second half Poynton thoroughly enjoyed themselves and took their foot off the gas, netting another 2 but conceding 1 penalty. Goals came from Danny Booth (2), Josh Noel (2), Connor Thompson (2), George Prescott (1). Will Bedigan and Will Trollope covered defence and played very positive football, Ben Hopwood played a great team game and George Hurst was voted MOTM.
Saturday 29th September 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-4 High Lane Juniors Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton welcomed high Lane Juniors this weekend. Poynton began with a dream start and netted a goal in the first 10 seconds of play but within 3 minutes High Lane to put the game back on level terms. At half time Poynton went in 1-2 down and never really recovered. Poynton will learn and improve their performance by simply holding shape and retaining possession of the ball. Both Poynton's goals came from Connor Thompson and many other chances could have changed the result in the blink of an eye. Poynton were without their natural keeper and played 2 outfield players in goal, 1 in each half. New signings Danny Partington and Griff Williams played fantastic and will undoubtedly help jell the team through the season. MOTM was awarded to Josh Noel for his first half keeping performance. Ref - Jack Franks should also be congratulated on his first competitive game - Well Done.
Saturday 6th October 2007 - Juno United Under 11's 3-2 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton travelled to Cheadle to play Juno United this weekend. Poynton started slowly and conceded two goals before they began to play. After the attitude changed, and they started to pull together as a team the game turned around. Danny Booth scored a super goal from a free kick and from then on Poynton pushed forward with wave on wave of attacking play. Griff Williams scored a cracking goal, his first for the club, but there just wasn't time on the clock to make up for the time lost in the first half. MOTM was awarded to Danny Booth for his all round play.
Saturday 11th October 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-3 Richmond Rovers Under 11's 'B' - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton welcomed Richmond Rovers this weekend. Poynton 'again' started slowly and conceded two goals in the first 5 minutes before they began to play. Connor Thompson put the ball in the net to bring Poynton back into the game that was soon followed by another to bring the score level. Poynton then pushed forward for the win but left themselves exposed at the back for Richmond to pinch the game in the last 10 minutes. Performances from Danny Booth, Griff Williams and Danny Partington were recognised by parents and players. The MOTM was awarded to Sam Bentley for an outstanding game. Well Done.
Saturday 11th October 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-2 Blue Star 'B' - Stockport Metro Cup (Preliminary Round) Poynton travelled to Disbury to play FC Blue Star B in a Cup Game. Poynton started brightly and ran the ball down at every opportunity. This put the pressure on Blue Star and forced mistakes. Poynton took the initiative and went one up with another cracking goal from Connor Thompson. Soon after Poynton let Blue Star back in the game when the goal line wasn't cleared and received another before half time. In the second half Poynton challenged Blue Star again and Ben Hopwood took his chance with a strike that hit the roof of the net. The game was over powered by Poynton's play but even after extra time could not be broken. The game was lost on Penalties but Poynton showed their sparkle and played together with fantastic spirit. Great Performances from Danny Booth, Danny Partington, Josh Noel, Connor Thompson, Sam Bentley. MOTM went to Ben Hopwood for a glowing performance.
Saturday 3rd November 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-1 Chapel Town Juniors - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) PJFC welcomed Chapel Town Juniors this weekend. Chapel Town is one of the league leaders and Poynton put on a complete team performance that showed quality all over the park. The Back 4, D Booth, D Partington, J Noel, W Bedigan played with complete focus and determination, winning ball and sending fabulous passes to Mid Field and Up Front. Keeper, S Bentley committed himself to every ball and remained on his tows and alert throughout. Mid Field, G Broddle, G Williams, B Hopwood, G Prescott played with style and closed the opposition down quickly to force mistakes yet giving space for themselves to play. Up Front, C Thompson, A Kay pulled out of the bag a stunning performance and worked well together. W Trollope and G Hurst came on and held the team together nicely. Goals from Danny Booth and Connor Thompson provided a massive foundation to build upon. The team support, communication and encouragement was top draw. MOTM was awarded by the supporting spectators to Danny Booth.
Saturday 10th November 2007 - Didsbury Juniors 'B' 2-3 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) PJFC travelled to Didsbury this weekend. Poynton set off again on the right foot and put the pressure on by obtaining possession and sending the ball forward into great space to attack Didsbury goal. The team ethic and commitment paid off with an early goal from Connor Thompson. The Back 4, D Booth (C), D Partington, J Noel, W Bedigan held their performance together from last weeks game. Keeper, S Bentley Played as one with the defence. Mid Field, G Prescott, M Southern, G Broddle, B Hopwood played a lovely passing game and pressing forward at every opportunity. Up Front, C Thompson, A Kay played well with the supporting Mid Field. Griff Williams came on in the first half and with his first touch riffled the ball into the back of the net. W Trollope came on and held the Mid Field together and George Hurst came on in the second half to score the winning goal and took away the MOTM with votes from his team mates.
Saturday 17th November 2007 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-1 Blue Star Under 11's 'C' - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) PJFC welcomed FC Blue Star this weekend. Poynton set off well and put Blue Star on the back foot, but within 5 minutes Poynton let them back into the game. Although, Poynton were always the upper team they never looked like taking the full initiative. Early in the second half Blue Star netted a lucky goal that, finally, sparked Poynton into action, forcing, a Blue Star own goal. Poynton made some subtle changes to create a more attacking formation and the game was for Poynton's taking, which they did with another quality finish from Connor Thompson. D Partington, D Booth, G Prescott held strong through the game and the quality of football during the second half ran throughout the determined team. Josh Noel controlled the game and took the MOTM for his efforts.
Saturday 1st December 2007 - Blue Star Under 11's 'C' 2-4 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton travelled to Didsbury to challenge FC Blue Star. From the kick-off Poynton attacked Blue Star and played the first half in their half of the pitch. Every player stood up to the task and ran rings around Blue Star passing them off the park, the standard of football was just top draw. Within 5 minutes Connor Thompson hit the back of the net with a header from set play, followed by another with his left foot, then topped it with his hat trick. Danny Booth lofted the keeper with a stunning strike from well outside the box to make it 4. In the second half Poynton set off again playing a beautiful game that was such a pleasure to watch. Keepers Mat Southern, Danny Booth, Nosh Noel played well standing in for Sam. The Back 4, D Booth (C), D Partington, J Noel, A Kay were totally organised, strong and in control of the game. Mid Field, G Prescott, G Williams, G Broddle, B Hopwood played with style keeping the ball moving and the forwards very busy. Up Front, Connor Thompson, G Hurst were lively and the first touch was sublime. MOTM was awarded by the spectators to Connor Thompson for his hat trick.
Saturday 5th January 2008 - Poynton FC Under 11's 8-0 Cheadle & Gatley U11's 'C' - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton welcomed Cheadle & Gatley this weekend for the first game of 2008. Poynton took the game to Cheadle and played with maturity and respect, passing the ball all over the park with complete confidence. Danny Booth opened the goal account from a penalty and additional goals came from Connor Thompson x2, Ben Hopwood x1, George Prescott x2, Josh Noel x2. Poynton took this opportunity to take some learning out of the game by mixing the team up in the second half and play new positions. MOTM was awarded to Danny Partington for his outstanding performances during the last few games.
Saturday 2nd February 2008 - Poynton FC Under 11's 8-2 Juno United U11's 'B' - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton welcomed Juno on this wintry weekend and after the lines had been swept the pitch was declared fit to play. Poynton took the play to Juno and owned 90 percent of the ball, soon taking the lead with a goal from Connor Thompson. Juno gained access into Poynton's half of the pitch, just twice, and took both opportunities. Supper sub George Broddle made a significant impact sending home a cracking shot to make a half-time score of 2-2. The team talk went into action for the second half and Poynton played Juno off the park with every player taking his part in play. Goals then came from some awesome passing through midfield from Connor Thompson (3) more, Mat Southern (1), George Prescott (1), Josh Noel (1). MOTM was awarded to Josh Noel for his goal and support play.
Saturday 9th February 2008 - Richmond Rovers Under 11's 'B' 1-5 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton played Richmond away this weekend in this local Derby. After a nervy start each team got into their stride and although Poynton owned the majority of play Richmond took the first goal. This seemed to give Poynton an added spark and soon drew level with a quality goal from Connor Thompson (1). In the second half Poynton made some subtle changes up front and in mid-field and started getting the ball forward with confidence. Goals then came from Danny Partington (1), Danny Booth (1) Josh Noel (2). MOTM was awarded to Will Bedigan for his strength and passing play.
Saturday 24th February 2008 - Hyde United U11's 4-1 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Hyde are at the top of the league table so this would be good for Poynton to measure the standard. During the first half Poynton played the ball around with maturity and style giving very little opportunity for Hyde to play. Although, the first goal came from one of the very few chances that were given to Hyde. Poynton stood strong and never let their heads drop resulting in a forced corner that was well taken and powered home from the head of George Prescott. Soon after Hyde were given a penalty decision that changed the game round and during the last 5 minutes Hyde put home another 2. The review from Hyde and the referee was that the score didnt reflect the closeness of the game.
Saturday 8th March 2008 - Poynton FC Under 11's 3-2 Didsbury Juniors 'B' - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton started sprightly and soon put Didsbury on the back foot, playing as a team with style and strength. The Back 4 - W. Bedigan, D Booth, J Noel and A Kay protected Keeper - S Bentley and forced the game to be played in Didsburys half. Mid Field - G Prescott, G Broddle, D Partington, B Hopwood held the ball well and sent some beautiful passes through for C Thompson, W Trollope, G Hurst to run onto. This caused major problems during every wave of attacking play. Connor Thompson collected his hat trick on the day, although, Didsbury made it difficult in the second half but Poynton held out for the win. MOTM was awarded to Daniel Partington by his team mates.
Saturday 15th March 2008 - Poynton FC Under 11's 2-1 Spurley Hey U11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton started slowly and allowed Spurley to retain possession of the ball for long periods and indecisiveness resulted in Spurley achieving the first goal. After a reality check at half time Poynton stood up for themselves and the team. The football wasnt pretty but the attitude was heartening. The back 4 D Booth, J Noel, W Bedigan, M Southern held a solid line and began to push the game forward. Mid Field B Hopwood, D Partington, G Broddle, G Prescott, G Hurst haltered Spurleys game. Up Front - C Thompson, A Kay, W Trollope sent some encouraging balls forward. The game was equaled from a free kick, taken by Josh Noel who lofted the ball down the back of the net. The result was then handed to Sam Bentley (keeper) who made a stunning save from a penalty to keep Poynton in the running. Spirits were lifted and the game was taken by another winning goal from Josh Noel. MOTM could not be split so was awarded by their team mates to Sam Bentley and Josh Noel.
Saturday 22nd March 2008 - High Lane Juniors U11's 2-0 Poynton FC Under 11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton elected to start the game playing up hill and against a very strong and blustering wind. Poynton held a really solid back line and prevented High Lane taking any benefit for their advantage until the last minute when they took a lucky deflection into the net. Poynton looked the team to take the win in the second half but the ball constantly fell unkindly. Poynton did get chances but the final touch wouldnt come despite a strong team effort. Pressing hard for that goal resulted in High Lane pinching another against the run of play. MOTM was awarded to Will Trollope for an outstanding performance.
Tuesday 22nd April 2008 - Poynton FC Under 11's 6-1 Stockport Vikings U11's - Stockport Metro League (Division Four) Poynton ended the season with a tremendous performance that was played with confidence and conviction. Goals were put away by Danny Booth, Danny Partington, Will Trollope, George Prescott, George Broddle, Ben Hopwood. MOTM was awarded to Griff Williams and W Trollope. |
